July 11, 2026 – Pastor Update
The evaluations regarding the structural review of the Sacred Heart Mission building are coming together. The engineers have been very thorough, with testing of the wood holding up the roof, as well as stress testing the masonry walls and the anchorage holding up the brick. We hope to have the completed reports by the end of July. We asked continued patience as we wait for the process to be completed.
Please note that at this time and for the foreseeable future, until it is determined what the next steps will be, I can not approve any gatherings or prayer services on the Mission property. Therefore, there will be no meetings or services of any kind permitted on the grounds. I deeply appreciate your cooperation, understanding, and ongoing prayers.
Sacred Heart Mission is part of Our Lady of Kibeho Parish. Masses are relocated to Holy Name of Mary Church at Our Lady of Kibeho Parish. Mass is offered at 4pm on Saturday and 10am on Sunday. Weekday mass takes place in the chapel of the convent building at 9am on Monday and Wednesday. All are welcome.

May 28, 2026 – Pastor Update
Since a portion of the facade at Sacred Heart Mission collapsed on Sunday, May 10, the building has been secured against the elements and has been undergoing inspection.
The Facilities Department of the Archdiocese of Chicago is in the process of evaluating the building to determine its long term viability. A decision is NOT imminent.
Sacred Heart Mission is part of Our Lady of Kibeho Parish. Masses are relocated to Holy Name of Mary Church at Our Lady of Kibeho Parish. Mass is offered at 4pm on Saturday and 10am on Sunday. Weekday mass takes place in the chapel of the convent building at 9am on Monday and Wednesday. All are welcome.

May 11, 2026 – Pastor Update
A portion of the facade at Sacred Heart Mission, a Catholic mission built in 1904 and part of Our Lady of Kibeho Parish, collapsed on Sunday, May 10. Unlike a parish church, a mission is a smaller Catholic faith community that operates under the care of a larger parish. We are grateful that no one was injured and ask for prayers for the community.
We are currently assessing the building and will develop plans in the near future. In the meantime, Masses will be relocated to Holy Name of Mary Church, 11159 S. Loomis, at Our Lady of Kibeho Parish. Mass is offered at Holy Name of Mary Church at 4:00pm on Saturday and 10:00am on Sunday. Weekday mass takes place in the chapel of the convent building at 9:00am on Monday and Wednesday. All are welcome.

Temporarily Closed as of 5/10/2026
Until further notice, the church is temporarily closed. On Sunday, May 10, 2026, after the final blessing at 10:00am Mass, the brick facade on the front of the church collapsed. Everyone exited the church quickly and safely; there were no injuries. First Responders arrived quickly and secured the area. Building Department officials came shortly after to assess the situation.
When we have further information it will be posted here and on the church website.
May Jesus continue to watch over our little church, parishioners and all those who assisted this morning.

Mass Schedule – Temporarily Canceled as of 5/10/2026
Located in the historic Morgan Park neighborhood of Chicago, Sacred Heart Church is a beautiful little parish, home to many faithful Chicago area Catholics.
Due to damage to the front brick facade on 5/10/2026, Mass has been temporarily canceled. In the interim, parishioners are welcomed to attend Mass at Holy Name of Mary Church, 11159 S. Loomis, at Our Lady of Kibeho Parish. Mass is offered at Holy Name of Mary Church at 4:00pm on Saturday and 10:00am on Sunday. Weekday mass takes place in the chapel of the convent building at 9:00am on Monday and Wednesday.
